A courtyard deck
Turns a hard, shady yard into a warm, usable room with built-in seating and planters.
Jesmond
Walled yards behind Victorian terraces, larger villa gardens towards the Dene, and kitchens that often sit a few steps above the garden. Small spaces reward careful design.
The gardens here
Many Jesmond terraces have compact, walled rear yards that see sun for only part of the day. The villas nearer Jesmond Dene have more room, but often a lower garden level with steps down from the house.
Much of Jesmond is a conservation area, and a lot of homes are let. Both affect what's sensible to build, so we talk it through at the design visit.
What we design
Turns a hard, shady yard into a warm, usable room with built-in seating and planters.
Meets a kitchen that sits above the garden, with generous steps rather than a steep drop.
Composite boards and simple details that stay smart between tenancies.
Before we draw
Most terraces have no side passage. We plan board lengths and deliveries to suit, and keep the house clean.
Walled yards stay damp. We allow for airflow under the deck and choose boards that resist slipping and staining.
Questions
